11,000 BUTERE BODABODAS TO GET SACCO.

THE Quest to have all the estimated 11,000 Bodaboda Operators across Butere Sub County form a Sacco has kicked off in earnest.
This noble initiative crafted by Kakamega County Medical health Chief Officer Dr. David Alila who comes from Butere could be a game changer.
Speaking when he met all the 110 chairmen of the stages in Five wards, Dr. Alila who has been proposed as a patron said the proposed Sacco was for economic empowerment.
"If you guys collected let's say as little as Ksh 10 per day and deposited in your account within a short time you will be free to make your decisions economically without depending on politicians" Said Alila.
He said peace-meal groupings within the bike operators will only help in short-term and for a few individuals but a long term solution lay in massive pulling of resources for each one of the members.
"There has never been a sincere move to alievate poverty from Motorbike Operators by politicians this initiative is non political because it goes hand in hand with Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa's SIX puller promise of wealth creation" Said Dr. Alila.
He told the chairmen that they should not allow their members to be branded as belonging to so and so politically because, according to him that is where parochialism sets in.
Observers have hailed this as the most sincere move by a non politician towards the welfare of the Bodabodas and their families.
Dr. Alila has already paid for the office to house all the five wards Bodaboda officials who are in the process of registering it's membership going forward.
The CO promised to avail a computer for storage of data for the operators and to involve the County Governor in as far as donation towards the Sacco was concerned.
Already, the move is causing jitters within some political circles with fear that Dr. Alila's move to consolidate bodas, PLWDs, Community health volunteers, clan elders and the provincial Administration would upset the status quo.
Social media is a buzz with rants and cat calls with political mouthpieces criticizing the Chief Officer and praising him in equal measure for the enlightment.
Those against this consolidation are afraid that the CO could use the opportunity to rally for numbers and run for political office. Others supporting the move say Dr. Alila's background allows him to think of the welfare of others politics or no politics.
