ABAWANGA MUST LET THEIR SON GUV BARASA FLY HIGHER
I speak as a nephew of the Wanga. My mother, NAMBALA daughter of HENRY OTIEKA WABURIRI, comes from the bloodline of WABALA, SON OF WANGA. I therefore speak not as an outsider, but as one whose roots and identity are firmly anchored in the Wanga heritage.
As Wanga people, we must rise above narrow thinking and embrace leadership that serves all the people of Kakamega County. Supporting GOVERNOR FERNANDES BARASA does not mean isolating him within a single community. On the contrary, true strength comes from allowing him to build bridges across communities and bring more non-Wanga closer to his leadership.
We should not struggle to portray the Governor as a Wanga village elder by attempting to localize county activities only within Wanga areas. Kakamega County is diverse, and its leadership must reflect that diversity. A governor is not elected to serve one clan or one sub-community, but to unite, balance, and uplift the entire county.
Governor Barasa deserves to be hailed for hosting this year’s Governor’s Cup in the county capital, KAKAMEGA TOWN. This was not just a logistical decision; it was a deliberate statement of unity, inclusivity, and fairness. Kakamega town belongs to everyone in the county, and positioning major county events there sends a clear message that no community is more important than another.
This approach clearly demonstrates that Governor Barasa loves Kakamega people as a whole, not selectively. Leadership that opens doors, decentralizes opportunities, and avoids ethnic or sub-tribal confinement is the kind of leadership that guarantees long-term stability, development, and political strength.
As Wanga people, our role should be to support inclusive leadership, not to fence it in. When the Governor grows nationally and countywide, the Wanga community also grows in influence, respect, and relevance.
Let us think broadly. Let us act wisely. Let us support unity over isolation.
