VIDEO: KAKAMEGA COUNTY, WHY ONGORO HAD TO GO

A DAY after the Kakamega  County assembly Service Board suspended the Clerk Laban Atemba for 60 days, today, the Assembl's Marjority leader Joel Ongoro has resigned.

Majority Leader for the Kakamega County Assembly Joel Ongoro resigned citing frustrations from Governor Whycliffe Oparanya in the execution of his duties.

A month ago, in a clear case of conflict of interest, the Kakamega Assembly paid Ebunangwe Resort a hotel owned and operated by Mr. Ongoro Ksh 5Million on claims that MCAs had eaten "kienyeji" from the resort.

The payment was orders by the Clerk despite that the hotel in not pre-qualified to offer services to the Assembly as required by the procurement rules.

Masibo said Mr. Ongoro was openly bragging how he was close to Governor Oparanya adding that part of the monies could have found its way into his hands.

He Said next week, arrangements are at an advanced stage for the massive demonstration to present a petition to Governor Oparanya to instigate changes at the Assembly following revelations that top officers including the Clerk, the Speaker Morris Buluma and Mr. Ongoro owe their positions at the assembly to his blessings.

"Oparanya blessed some of these people to sit in the Assembly as officers, they are busy abusing the blessings by engaging in blatant theft of public resources as he watches" Said Masibo.

The new Civil society said they would also present a letter to the DPP's Kakamega office and Kisumu's EACC officers.

"We are aware that EACC collected a file full of original documents from the Assembly two years ago over non existent tenders where millions of shillings were spent, we are exerting pressure to find out why nobody has been held accountable" He said.

We established that several letters from EACC Kisumu office have not been acted on and instead the letters have been used as fattening grounds for corrupt officers who use the letters to solicit for money from some Assembly bosses.

Kakamega Yetu now wants a lifestyle Audit of Mr. Ongoro, Mr. Atemba and the Speaker Buluma over how they amassed their wealth adding that most had grown into overnight millionaires since they took over office.

Last week, MCAs demanded to know how the majority leader was paid despite that he sits on the Assembly service board that makes weighty decisions in so far as supply services are concerned.

Sources close to Governor Oparanya said he was getting concerned at the rot at the assembly and could soon initiate a merchinery from MCAs to restore sanity.

Atemba's suspention is seen as an attempt by the assembly to cleanupits image amongst claims of massive looting at the assembly.

It was not clear if Bunge La Haki Usawa na Maendeleo, another civil Society based in Kakamega, would join the new push for solid action at the troubled Assembly.

ENDS.
