WHY ODM TRUSTED DR. LISHENGA WITH SENATE TICKET.
The deal to hand DR. Lishenga the ODM ticket was reached in a meeting that was chaired by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who doubles as ODM’s deputy party leader.
The medical doctor who is below 40 years, will battle it out with UDA’s Boni Khalwale, Sammy Aina or Winfred Asiko of DAP-K and Nabasanga Kaira.
Khalwale joined the race after relinquishing his governor bid to Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala.
Lishenga hopes to galvanize the support of the youth to clinch the seat and represent his constituents in the senate.
In the ODM Kakamega line up, Fernandes Barasa will fly the gubernatorial ticket and face it off with United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Malala.
For Woman Rep seat Elsie Muhanda will be vying using the ODM ticket and competing against Democratic Action Party of Kenya candidate Naomi Shinyonga.
Lishenga was issued the party’s ticket after the political outfit managed to reach a consensus with the three political aspirants eyeing the ticket.

If ODM was to conduct the primaries by way of universal suffarage, Lishenga would have battled it out with Simbauni Ndombi, a businessman and Benjamin Nandama.
The ODM senatorial candidate for Kakamega is the Chairman Rural Private Hospitals Association of Kenya and has previously been a Dean of Medicine at Egerton University.
Sources at the first meeting in Kakamega indicated that from the word go, Dr. Lishenga has an upper hand against his ticket challenges and a nomination and everything that happens there, would have denied ODM the best.
The source said among the attributes of Dr. Lishenga were that he is in a better position to marshal the youth vote who account for 69% of those to vote in August, he was acceptable across the county and he was fluid.
It was also established that his challengers including Simbaoni Ndombi and little known Mr. Andama were not appealing to the voters.
Dr. Ndombi had lost the governorship race to Oparanya in 2017 as Andama lost as Khwisero MP against Christopher Aseka. That played a big role as Lishenga came across as safe and fresh.
