GOVERNOR BARASA IS THE 2023 HERO OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY.
Its without doubt that Governor Fernandes Barasa has scored firsts in his first five-year term at the helm of Kakamega County.
From distribution of drugs and non phermaseuticals in hospitals across Kakamega to instalation of water points and getting cozzy with People Living with disability, it's been a ride.
Since the advent of devolution, it's only in the Barasa administration that a day to mark, celebrate and fete those abled differently was observed with pomp at Bukhungu Studium.
Unlike in previous administration where PLWD were regarded as a curse and most sneered at by even the Governor himself, Governor Barasa has shown his soft touch along that line.
According to Ministry of Health, Over 140,000 adults are abled differently in Kakamega County with more than half of them now able to enjoy some of the benefits the county government has to offer.
From doing business without paying licenses, free medical assessment, free treatment in county facilities and preferential and speedy service at public offices.
Governor Fernandes Barasa has gone down history as the only leader who spares time in his public engagements for PLWD, the less privileged, women and children to address him without segregation.
Its no doubt that PLWDs have reaped big from the first year of this government and Governor Barasa needs accolades towards that end because previously, mentioning disability would be punishable by being sidelined or being shunned.
This new year 2024, more good tidings appear coming the way of PLWD in Kakamega because the state of affairs as previously ignored, needs to be given priority.
Governor Fernandes Barasa and his wife Professor Janet Kasilli are obviously now Hero and Heroiness respectively of 2023 in as far as people with disability is concerned.
