LOYALTY BEFORE AMBITION: IF DG SAVULA IS NOT TAMED.........
By publicly declaring his intention to contest for Governor of Kakamega in 2027, Deputy Governor AYUB SAVULA is behaving like the proverbial man who seeks to inherit his brother’s wife while that brother is still alive. Traditionally, such conduct is regarded as immoral and dishonourable.
Politically, this declaration signals impatience, impropriety, and a troubling absence of loyalty within the very office he occupies.
Governor FERNANDES BARASA is constitutionally and politically eligible for a second term. This fact is neither incidental nor negotiable. It forms the very foundation of orderly leadership and continuity in governance.
The role of a deputy governor is not to posture as a rival in waiting. It is to support, defend, and strengthen the governor’s administration until the people themselves pronounce otherwise through the ballot.
For a sitting deputy to declare an intention to unseat his own governor before the completion of the first term is a clear admission of disloyalty, unfaithfulness, and political unhelpfulness.
Such conduct fractures the executive from within. It weakens governance, erodes trust, and diverts attention from service delivery to personal ambition.
If AYUB SAVULA has chosen to openly position himself against his own principal, then political consequences must naturally follow. Loyalty in leadership is reciprocal. It cannot be demanded where it has already been withdrawn.
Consequently, and in recognition of the emerging political reality, FERNANDES BARASA’s 2027 re election strategy will include a new running mate from MALAVA SUB COUNTY.
This is not an act of vengeance but of strategy. Malava offers demographic weight, political vitality, and renewed energy necessary for consolidating countywide support.
In both culture and politics, succession is not seized. It is earned, timed, and legitimised by the people.
Any ambition that disregards this truth risks being remembered not as bold leadership, but as betrayal.
