KAKAMEGA Governor HE Fernandes BARASA has significantly upgraded and expanded Kakamega County's health infrastructure to improve access to medical services.
A healthy people are a productive lot and that is why this administration has since taking office, invested heavily in medicine and equipment.
Key upgrades and health centre development include:
Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital: The flagship 750-bed level 6 facility is being finalised in a joint effort with the National Government to serve as a premier regional medical hub.

Butere Level 4 Hospital: Upgraded to offer specialised renal care services.
Khalaba Health Centre: Commissioned a new 30-bed general ward in Matungu sub-county to increase inpatient capacity.
Bukura Health Centre: which is in Lurambi constituency,has been upgraded to a level 4 hospital. This upgrade includes the addition of a maternity wing.
Matete level 4 Hospital: A new 24-bed ward was constructed and equipped at Matete level 4 hospital in Lugari sub-county.
Emurumba Dispensary: Renovated a health centre in Lurambi sub-county.
Nyapora Health Centre: Commissioned a new health centre in Mumias West.
Mataho Health Facility: Commissioned a new health facility in Idakho North,Ikolomani constituency.
Shikusi Health Centre: which is in Shinyalu constituency,has been upgraded. This upgrade includes the addition of a maternity wing.
Marakusi Health Centre: commissioned a new health centre in Lugari sub-county.
Busangavia Dispensary: Renovated a health centre in Navakholo sub-county.
Shamakhubu Level 4 Hospital: Revival of a stall project to create a 100-bed modern health facility in Shinyalu sub-county.
Lukongo Health Centre: Expanded through a partnership,adding essential medical equipment and a solar power system.
