MATUNGU: YOUTHS DESTROY ODM T-SHIRTS HOURS AFTER HON WERE WAS CLEARED.

A group of youths burn ODM - branded caps and Tshirts in Matungu protesting the candidature of DVid Were the former MP. 

HUNDREDS of youths yesterday tore and destroyed ODM-branded Tshirts and caps an hour after the party's candidate David Were was cleared by the IEBC.

The sparodic incidents were witnessed in Emakale market in Mayoni Ward, Koyonzo market in Koyonzo ward and Mirere market.

The youths said Honourable Where's candidature was no longer tenable and that he was being forced down their throats.

As the ODM entourage snaked towards Harambee market, pockets of residents openly protested saying their choice to succeed the late MP is ANC :s Peter Nabulindo whose victory they claimed was stolen in 2017.

"It will be unrealistic for Governor Oparanya to force us using threats and intimidation and empty promises to elect Hon. We're, we have him 15 years let someone else go there and work" Said Simon Sande.

At one time, massively built goons transported from Siaya and accompanying Suna East MP Junnet Mouhamed, Senator James Orengo, ODM sec General Edwin Sifuna we're unleashed and neat up several youths who were heckling at Musambaa Market center when the leaders were speaking.

After the youths were successfully dispersed, other regrouped and lit bonfires using the ODM Mechandise that they had been given from an open pickup carrying the goods.

Speaking after the violence, ANC's Youth Leader in Kakamega Emmanuel Buchichi condemned the barbaric acts asking why the ODM candidate and police watched as goons from outside molested peaceful protesters.

"It us disheartening to see an incident where people expressing divergent opinions against a candidate are heated in an orgy of violence and the said candidate just watches" Said Buchichi.

He raiterated calls by the ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi that elections must be conducted in a peaceful manner devoid of violence and intimidation. 

Kakamega Governor Whycliffe Oparanya has been singled out as using county resources like cars to campaign in the elections, on Tuesday, several vehicles in the ODM entourage had their plates changed from County to private registration to hide their identity.

A police source said they will soon flash out County vehicles used by any politician across the board in the Matungu By elections. 

The seat fell vacant after the MP Justus Omurunga dies late last year after he fell sick. A total of 15 candidates have been cleared to contest the seat a majority being independent candidates.
