WHAT THE KAKAMEGA ANC FORMATION WOULD POTEND.

Analysis by George Omulama in Butere.

Politicians in Kenya have a tendency of forming alliances towards the general election. Kakamega County has not been left behind as various contestants begin to eye the various elective positions in the 2022 race.

A quartet of leaders looks to form a political force through the Western dominant ANC party to contest for the various elective positions in the forthcoming general elections.
Senator Cleophas Malala.

Is a well-known vibrant politician capable of attracting youth votes that can tilt the balance of any contest at the county level.

With the previous Governor having come from lower Kakamega, it is expected that Upper Kakamega voters might be convinced to back one of their own, this time round.

The former Deputy Minority leader has mobilised the youths through his Cleo Malala super Cup and it is expected the youth will be the backbone to his campaigns.

The prospective Governor’s headache will be how to show that his abrasive politics will not mean volatile leadership at the helm of the county.

It is also waited to be seen how the former Mahiakalo ward MCA will bring on board non-youth voters who have issues with his style of politics.
Pof. Amukowa Anangwe

With the larger Butere lacking a serious contender for the position of Governor, there is a possibility that Butere and Khwisero could rally behind the Political Science professor were he to be Malala’s running mate.

Much as the running mate for the Governor can do with a laid back personality, Prof. Anangwe will have to convince the people of Butere/Khwisero that their combination offers them a better chance to be on the dinner table.

Having been outside politics for two decades, it is waited to be seen if the former Medical Services Minister has some fire left in his belly to traverse and shake Kakamega politics.

Ayub Savula for Senator?

With no serious contender for the position of Senator, Savula will jump into the contest as frontrunner with his style of politics expected to excite the youth to his base.

It will however be interesting to see what the former Standard Regional News Editor will do to attract voters beyond the youth base who might not be attracted to his style of politics.
Penina Mukabane

Last but not the least in this formation is the Gender Advisor to Gov. Oparanya and former Health CEC Penina Mukabane.

With a stellar record in the public service, the Kakamega Woman Rep. prospect is expected to dig into her many social connections to establish a rapport with the voters.

However, in a crowded field with fiery politicians, the Agricultural Economics expert will rely on the other politicians in her team to draw the youthful vote and help sell her name in the entirety of Kakamega County.

Whilst this combination has a mixture of both fiery politicians with reasonable financial war chest, the biggest hurdle will be to sell their prospective candidatures beyond the youth base.
ENDS.
