QUESTIONS LINGER OVER MUMIAS SUGAR - MUHORONI DEAL

MUMIAS SUGAR REVIVAL QUESTIONS.

An electric pump said to be worth Ksh. 50 million taken from the ailing Mumias Sugar Company (MSC) to Muhoroni Sugar has set tongues wagging on the intended revival of the later.

In a Neighborly act, Mumias Sugar last week freely lent out a boiler High speed feed pump to its rival where they have been getting molases.

@Eshikumo2030 is in procession of an undated borrowing agreement signed by Muhoroni Manager Vitalis Oduor and Mumias Sugar receiver manager P. V. R. RAO.

According to the agreement,  Muhoroni sugar had their pump broken down and that delay in delivery was because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The agreement further states that the hirer - Muhoroni must prioritise giving Mumias Sugar molasses as it currently uses the same to make ethanol.

Speaking to blogspot the current Factory manager in Mumias Chris Wabuti confirmed the same but added that the said pump was no longer useful to the company.

"The boilers that were being used by this pump were decommissioned long time ago and it has just been laying here" Said Mr. Wabuti.

He said the pump was hired by Muhoroni and not sold or smuggled as it was being claimed by a section of leaders in the Sugar zone.

"it's an act of kindness, we are buying molasses from Muhoroni to keep us producing ethanol and since they had a breakdown we had to hire out the pump at no cost" he said.

MSC lawyer Patrick Mutuli explained that all documentation on the item were in order and that the receiver manager was in full knowledge of the deal.

None of the officials were willing to divulge how much benefit in monetary terms was MUMIAS Sugar bound to benefit from the pump "hire"

Last week, a section of MCAs had claimed that high level vandalism had returned to the company whereby scrap metal like the conveyor belt has been tampered with, cut and sold in bits.

The MCAs had accused Total Security, the company guarding Mumias Sugar Proprietor Ronald Wakwaabi of laxity and complicity after they accused him of being part of the cartel.

They had claimed the Company proprietor who was fired from MSC in 2003 for alleged theft of sugar had employed his brother at the firm as a stock control manager.

Speaking on phone Mr. Wakwabi dismissed the accusations as malice adding that those behind such talk were only interested in having his contact with the receiver canceled.
