Butere Elders reject Governor Oparanya's 2022 bid.
*WHAT OPARANYA PROMISED BUTERE ELDERS IF ELECTED AS MP 2022.*. By @Eshikumo2030
Last week, Kakamega Governor Whycliffe Oparanya held a meeting at with Butere Elders at Eshimuli Guest House.
The 45 elders most of them 75 years Olds who used to campaign for Martin Shikuku and Prof Amukowa Anangwe included Beneah Shisia and former DC Harry Wamubeyi.
An insider told this blog that Hon Oparanya had called the elders to beg them rally for votes as Butere MP on 2022.
The insider said Oparanya told the gathering that Butere Constituency under him as MP was in a better position to benefit from the BBI arrangement in 2022.
The meeting that has been postponed twice due to Hon Oparanya's National engagement as the COG came hot on the heels of a petition to the Kakamega County government from Butere youth over unmet promises from Hon Oparanya in his 10 years as county boss.
The Eshimuli meeting saw 15 so called elders agree to support his candidature as MP while the rest plainly rejected his plea.
An elder from Shathsala Mr. Samuel Misango stood up and gave an analogy of a student who went to school and scored poorly after 10 years at "University" and he was back home for his parents to sell the only homestead bull to sponsor his education.
Governor Oparanya was at Pains to explain why he had not delivered on the promises of a 'better Butere' in his second term, he said he needed just one term as MP in 2022 and rise to the BBI provisions of Prime Minister or Deputy.
Amidst hushed tones, Oparanya labored to explain his role as county boss saying his plans to develop Butere were frustrated mostly by unnamed outsiders.
After the meeting that say heavy rejection undertones Governor Oparanya promised to lift the elders soon to Mombasa in the follow up of his agenda.
Speaking to this blog a youth leader Moses Ombayo expressed shock that a section of elders with an allowance of Ksh 3,000 from Oparanya were seeking to endorse him to contest in 2022.
"He is free to contest but it defys logic for the Governor to say he will get Butere developed in 2022 after all these year" Said Ombayo.
The youth leader sneered at the County boss terming his act to contest as Butere MP as childish, in bad faith and bastardising the trust the area had in the Governor.
Those who have expressed interest in replacing the current Butere MP Tindi Mwale are Former MP Andrew Toboso, HABEL Bushuru, Opembe, County Executive Omuhaka, Dr Ashiembi and Marama South MCA William Opuka.
Political pundits have said if Oparanya insists on his agenda, he will only have two people who have nothing to loose to face him. That current MP Tindi Mwale and Andrew Toboso who have are seen as ready to go against him.
The rest of the contestants, being prodigies of Hon Oparanya will hastily drop their bid, dissappear or resort to political oblivion.
Governor Oparanya an OMUMARAMA by clan, has dimmed many rising political stars in Butere by playing dictatorial politics, brandishing money and threats to have his way.
According to Pundits, the current generation gap between Oparanya and the young voters will play a big role against him and this would "kill" his political dream at the ballot in 2022.
Immediate survey shows an enlightened youth that has remained poor for ages in Butere as Governor Oparanya rides on their ignorance to scale the political ladder.
Oparanya who beat Professor Amukowa Anangwe came is as MP with hope but to date, hopelessness has set in.
Among the promises put on the table by Oparanya at the Eshimyli meeting as he sought support as MP 2022 are:
1. A home for the elderly to be built in Mabole.
2. A milk plant in Shianda Brae Manyulia Market.
3. Upgrading of Butere Hospital to a county referral
4. Building of Bodaboda shades across Butere.
5. Free treatment for all elders above 70 years.
