MUMIAS SELLOUT PLOT: KSH 5B WAS A NASTY BAIT.

When ANC PARTY LEADER H.E. Musalia Mudavadi met members of the press early this week he raised genuine questions and concerns that he wanted addressed even as a financier is sought to revive Mumias.

Among the issues Musalia raised and which sen. Cleo Malala repeated in the senate and on radio include:

1. Mumias Sugar  Nuclear Land* is consolidated & enjoys *a permanent big source of water called the Nzoia River*, It is a perfect replica of *Delamare farms* in Naivasha, infact *Mumias nuclears is much bigger. Such a resource cannot be sold for a mere 5 billion. There should be consultations on this.

*2. Mumias land* is Ideal for *commercial dairy farming, horticulture & irrigation*. There are concerns that a privateer like *Devki* may not be interested in reviving *Sugarcane* farming in Mumias. He may turn Mumias nuclears for other agro based productions. Mudavadi thus wants more scrutiny on the same.

3. Mudavadi wants proper valuing of Mumias. Currently *Mumias Sugar* has been *devalued* so that a buyer can be found& buy it *cheaply* *KCB* is the biggest bank in the country, with very *huge capital base*, why would such a big financial group want to sell Mumias to Devki for a song?

4. Devki himself has refused public bidding and public scrutiny bearing in mind that he was single sourced and handedly picked by interested parties. There is concern, which Senator Malala raised in the senate that Mumias is too IMPORTANT to the region for it to be single sourced without any public participation.

CONCLUSION

Revival of Mumias Sugar is critical but care must be taken that its not sold the way Pan paper was cheaply taken away.  We support western leaders led by Musalia Mudavadi to demand answers before Mumias is sold. NOBODY SHOULD SELL MUMIAS SUGAR COMPANY STUPIDLY, IN THE DARK AND FOR A SONG.
