GOVERNOR APPEARS, EXTINGUISHES RANTING MP.
KAKAMEGA Governor Fernandes Barasa and his deputy Ayub Savula yesterday stormed Mumias East Constituency amid the local MP's online cat calls and childish rants.
In a show of might, the Governor led the entire government from CECs, Chief Officers, quantity surveyors and valuers in a question and answer session that lasted four hours.
This was after local MP Peter Kalerwa Salasya PK had threatened to block the governor's visit in the area after the two apparently differed over the handling of the Mumias Sugar debacle.
Police manning the Lubinu-Lusheya road where youths allied to area MP had lit bonfires protesting the Governor's visit after a spat with area MP.
At one time before the arrival of the Governor, marauding youths stoned cars and lit bonfires along the Mumias Kakamega road at Mwitoti- Lusheya junction before they were quickly repulsed by the police.
The youths chanting anti-Barasa songs suddenly ran out of steam after their donor Hon Salasya took off at high speed towards Kakamega with police in hot pursuit.
In what observers now claim is a warning shot to dissenting voices especially from elected leaders as MP's, , Hon Barasa appeared to be taking the development chorus to the grassroots to shame fellow leaders who are only out to seek cheap publicity by engaging in parochial politics and empty rhetoric.
"I will not engage in empty talk because time waits for no one, I have a mandate to fulfill because this is what will earn me another term and endeer me to voters" He said.
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya holled up at Wanga Tecnical College in his constituency after he failed to attend a stakeholders meeting by Kakamega Governor.
Governor Barasa and his deputy had to sit thru two hours as Lubinu Lusheya residents enumerated their needs and wants as his Ministers took notes of the many issues raised per Ministry.
At one time, there was laughter from the crowd when an official in the Ministry of Comerce headed by the DG hesitated to explain a point raised by the residents as Hon Savula took the microphone and said "Leo mtajikojolea"(you will urinate on your selves).
In the question and answer session Ministers handled diffrent questions from those in attendance in a clear show of know-how and ability to grasp their areas is specialty.
All along, the area MP, fearing a backlash from his people, had taken refuge at Wanga Technical Collage 4 Kilometers away with a handful of youths as he followed the stakeholders meeting from social media.
Governor, appearing to bare his fangs was backed up by his clans men who said it was ironic that fellow Wangas had decided to fight the Governor to please outside forces.
Among those who sang the Wanga tune included Wanga MCA Obwaka and Environment CO Justine Mutobera, area MCA who vowed to defend the governor from external forces.
Governor Barasa's today engagement was seen as a productive dialogue where valuable insights from the residents of Mumias East Sub-county, at Lusheya Market were gathered.
This marked the second sub-county level public participation initiative following the successful session held in Likuyani. This inclusive approach, according to observers, will be replicated across the remaining Sub-counties.
